My Garden Door

Yesterday, on the hottest day of the year, so far, hubby worked to replace the old door on the garage with a new one.

If you’ve read my blog earlier, you’ll know that I had plans in my head for the old door … saving it to use along the fence.

This isn’t permanently placed yet but hopefully within the next month or so, it will be.

My husband still thinks it’s a stupid idea, even though he never actually said it outloud … I’ve known him long enough to know that he thinks it’s stupid but knows better than to actually say that it’s stupid.

Unlike my daughters, Jen and Rachel, who both just outright told me that it’s a stupid idea, don’t do it.  Jen might have me committed soon; she REALLY thinks there’s something wrong with me.

So the dear husband, took the old door off and placed it over at the fence.  When I came outside to see his work progress, he told me to go take a look at the old door.

“It doesn’t look as good as you thought it would, now does it?” he said.

HA!  It looks even BETTER than I thought it would.

Gosh, that surprised him.

It’s going to look soooo nice next year because I’m planting sunflower seeds in early spring and the whole area will be covered with sunflowers and coneflowers. I’ll put a nice county wreath on the door and this area by the driveway will look incredible!

100_4052 So the picture in my head works again!

So this weekend was a good, fun weekend for us.  Rachel’s boyfriend came over from Somerset to stay with us.  Rachel is as happy as a lark when the boyfriend is around, so it’s always a good thing.  Hubby had lots of days off because of the holiday so he was able to put in two more windows above the garage and get the new door put in too.  He even took a day off to go out for the day on his Harley with some of his friends.

We went to the fireworks in Midland on Saturday evening and was entertained by some band but more entertained by my sister’s (casserole Carol’s) husband.  He’s Irish so that should explain why Mark is usually always entertaining. I’m not sure but it might be an Irish tradition/requirement for Irishmen to keep a bottle opener on their keyring.   Probably something in the little cooler that Mark kept beside him had something to do with it.  He shared a lot of it with my husband too,who is not Irish and doesn’t have a bottle opener on his keyring, which meant that I drove home.  :)

In between all of that, I’ve been working on my newest design, which will be for fall.  Here’s a little sneak peak:

100_4121 I have lots more work to do on this candle mat before I can show the entire thing, but it’s looking good so far!

Happy Day everyone!

I laughed out loud when I read....."it looks better than I thought it would". I was thinking the same things. Looks awesome and when you get flowers going and that wreath on the door, it is going to look great. Making me wish I had kept those headboards and insisted my hubby make them into a garden bench. I'll be on the lookout for a new find and when I do I'm bringing him to your blog so he can see I'm not the only one with ideas that may not seem to make sense to him. LOL!

Brilliant! What a great way to re-use an old door and give your garden some whimsy. Love it! Lizzie

I think it might look like a gateway to some sort of secret garden!
I have 3 old doors that my husband surprised me with one day. He found them on the way home, someone had tossed them off the side of the road in an orange grove!

Sounds just like my husband, I would have done the same thing. I love how the door looks and it will be great with a wreath and flowers growing around.
